Your boys are back! Week 6 of our regular fantasy football advice is here, and as always we are going to provide you 100% correct, science-based advice with zero repercussions if followed.
Like last year, we will go ahead and leave out the effective matchup-proof picks such as Justin Jefferson and Derrick Henry. Let's get into it.
Quarterbacks: @ Endydoe
Start: Caleb Williams vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (London, Sunday 10/13 @ 9:30 AM EST)
The number one overall pick seems to be hitting his stride, due in part to finding a connection with star wideout DJ Moore. Williams enters the week as QB21 on the season, but also following a breakout fantasy performance versus the Panthers last week, he's positioned for another strong outing this week. In London on Sunday morning, Williams faces a Jags defense allowing the most points to opposing Quarterbacks in the entire NFL, including 0 total interceptions, and 11 sacks, tied for 9th least in the league. In a week of a handful of strong fantasy QBs on a BYE, I like Caleb Williams as a streaming option in Week 6 that can likely stay on your roster for the remainder of the season.
Start: Daniel Jones vs. Cincinnati Bengals (SNF, 10/13 @ 8:20 PM EST)
Danny Dimes has had a quietly solid uptick in fantasy performance in the past few weeks, and enters this week as QB14. He has a favorable home matchup against the lackluster Bengals defense, who are allowing the fifth most points to QBs this season. With his legs, along with growing connections with rookie sensation Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson etc, Jones is also a solid option this week against this disorderly Cincy squad.
Sit: Trevor Lawrence @ Chicago Bears (London, Sunday 10/13 @ 9:30 AM EST)
Don't be fooled by Lawrence's great fantasy day last week against the Colts who allow the 3rd most points to QBs (only next to the Bucs and the Jaguars themselves). In London, Lawrence faces a supremely tougher opponent in the Chicago bears who are allowing the least fantasy points to opposing QBs this season. Pair that with Lawrence having an otherwise meh season. Stay far away from TLaw, even as a streaming option.
Be careful with: Jalen Hurts vs. Cleveland Browns (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
This one...hurts. I'm using some editor's prvilege here and asking you to neither start nor sit him. Jalen is not currently having the superstar fantasy campaign we are accustomed to nowadays and it doesn't get any easier this week as the Cleveland Browns are coming to Philadelphia allowing the 9th least fantasy points to Quarterbacks this season. However, part of what is making Hurts enter Week 6 as QB20 lies in the fact that he has been missing his one-two punch of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith for the majority of the season. Both wideouts are going to be online this week, which greatly improves Hurts' outlook. That said, Hurts has already fumbled the ball thrice this season and is 23rd in the league in passing yards. It's tough. Be careful with Hurts, and only start if you can't find a better matchup to slot in this week.
Running Backs: @BreTT_Shevlin
Start: Tank Bigsby vs. Chicago Bears (London, Sunday 10/13 @ 9:30 AM EST)
One of the more popular fantasy football waiver pickups in most leagues and I’m saying you should start Tank Bigsby as soon as this week. Bigsby and Etienne have started to split the touches and Bigsby has made himself look the far more explosive player. In Weeks 4 and 5 he had 20 carries for 191 yards and 2 TD’s. Chubba Hubbard just ran for 97 yards and a TD last week vs Chicago on just 13 attempts so even without a ton of volume, I still think Tank can be productive against a shaky defense. Etienne is also battling a shoulder injury which is worth monitoring as that may affect his snap count this coming week as well. Overall I’d consider him a flex play in Week 6.
Start: Chase Brown @ New York Giants (SNF, 10/13 @ 8:20 PM EST)
Chase Brown has seen his usage start to increase in every passing game and now Zack Moss is questionable with a foot injury. Brown has a lot more big play ability than Moss and a home game vs the Giants is an inviting matchup. The Giants aren’t a great defensive team and with how Joe Burrow and the Bengals offense has been looking, you’d be pretty safe starting any of their playmakers. With the Bengals off to an ugly 1-4 start to the season they are in desperate need of a win Sunday. In order to do that they’re gonna have to win the time of possession and keep that trash defense on the bench by running the ball and chewing clock. Game script should favor Brown this week.
Start: Tyrone Tracy vs. Cincinnati Bengals (SNF, 10/13 @ 8:20 PM EST)
Cincinnati has been atrocious vs the run this season allowing over 150 yards a game on the ground. Even if Devin Singletary returns from injury this week, I still think Tracy did enough last week to prove that he should be a mainstay in this offense. A breakout showcase game of sorts for Tracy who was a former receiver in college, but has made the transition to RB. This guy is a human joystick with how he breaks tackles at the NFL level. The Giants have already seemed to hit on both Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson so why not just keep playing the young guys? More Tracy and Hyatt and less Singletary and Slayton!
Sit: Rhamondre Stevenson vs. Houston Texans (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
As someone who will be attending this game with my friends here at 4QWI, I am not optimistic of the Patriots chances of doing much offensively. We are all excited to finally see Drake Maye start his first NFL game, but a very tough spot to put him in against a good Texans defense. The offensive line is the worst in football and Antonio Gibson is starting to see more work as well as a change of pace option who can actually hold onto the football. Stevenson is very much touchdown dependent in fantasy right now so I would avoid him until we actually see what this offense is capable of first with Drake Maye under center.
Sit: Brian Robinson Jr. @ Baltimore Ravens (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
Robinson faces a tough task this week traveling to Baltimore to play the Ravens who are currently allowing a lead low 60 yards a game vs RB’s this season. The Commanders also like to deploy a lot of designed runs with Jayden Daniels as well which lowers Robinson’s upside. I would expect more of a pass heavy game in this one which would make Austin Ekeler the better play between the two.
Wide Receivers: @spechty49
Start: Darnell Mooney @ Carolina Panthers (Sunday, 10/13 @ 4:25 PM EST)
Last week’s performance cannot be ignored. Unlike some who turned small work into a TD or a long run … having 16 targets in one game means something. Having 30 targets in 3 games is crazy. It’s only 4 behind WR1 Drake London so they seemed to have slipped into a nice 1A 1B with Mooney seeming to be a solid WR/Flex start who should profit against a Carolina D who ranks 23rd against opposing WR.
Start: Zay Flowers vs. Washington Commanders (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
Inconsistency paired with Lamar’s willingness to throw to just about anyone has Zay at WR 28 right now. A season high performance in targets and yards last week is something though! I think this will be a high scoring affair. Now that I’ve spoken it into existence bet the under… but a Commanders D that is 7th in total points for WRs makes Flowers a solid WR 2.
Sit: Chris Olave vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
A bad matchup against the Bucs paired up with a new rookie QB. I’d look for the Rattler to lean on easy throws and Kamara in his first start. The kid (Rattler) does have balls as shown in college but I see Olave as a risk reward flex option this week until we see the connection. Just wait for a better matchup especially if Shaheed is out. (did not practice as of the writing of this)
Sit: Keon Coleman @ New York Jets (MNF, 10/14 @ 8:15 PM EST)
His decent score last week may have waiver searchers interested. But going up against the Jets he should be left be. A shaky Allen at QB does not help but regardless he has had 3 games with 0-1 catches and never more than 5 all season. He’s not even scoring TDs … his score last week was impressive but with the Jets coming up I’d say leave him be. There’s better options.
Tight Ends: @spechty49
Start: Cade Otton @ New Orleans Saints (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
If in need of a TE Otton is available in a huge 79% of leagues. Over the last 3 games Otton only trails Godwin and Evans by 3 targets 24 for both Godwin and Evans and 21 for Otton. Going up against a Saint team that is ranked 23rd in the league in points per game to TE Otton should have some looks and if he gets into the endzone that’s just gravy.
Start: Tucker Kraft vs. Arizona Cardinals (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
Ranked as TE 4 on ESPN the matchup against the cardinals who have been tough on opposing TEs may cause hesitation. It shouldn’t as long as Jordan Love is in Kraft is a higher end TE option. This offense has a lot of options and he is one of them ranking up 3 TDs in his last 2 games. I’d expect another one this week.
Sit: Mark Andrews vs. Washington Commanders (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
Mark Andrews is on drop watch. Even with a season high game which is sad he was still out scored by 2 other TEs on the squad. One of them I’ve never even heard of! ESPN has him at TE26 and unless you’re in a crazy deep league there are better options on the wire.
Sit: Zach Ertz @ Baltimore Ravens (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
Being held to single digits in all but 1 game Ertz is clearly not a priority target in this offense. This team is bolstered by good WR play, a mobile QB, and 2 good RBs. He just seems to have not demanded a share. Inconsistent as well missing on 6 of his 8 targets last week. I would still skip this even against a favorable matchup.
D/STs: @jvr1210
Start: Texans D/ST @ New England Patriots (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
This match-up has dream potential written all over it. The New England Patriots will be debuting their shiny 3rd overall draft pick Drake Maye on Sunday against the Texans. The Texans currently are 8th in the league in terms of team sacks, with 15 on the season thus far. With a rookie QB making his first start, lining up against an offensive line that we have seen allow Jacoby Brissett to take a beating week in and week out, the Texans D/ST could thrive. This should be a fairly easy win for the Texans, and their D/ST could score big in Fantasy.
Start: Eagles D/ST vs. Cleveland Browns (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
It has been a very rough start for the 29th-ranked fantasy defense. The Eagles are currently averaging 2.5 fantasy points per game, with 1 fantasy point or less in three of their games. They will look to get back on track after the early bye with a matchup against the struggling Cleveland Browns. The Browns are coming off a game where they were sacked seven times en route to a 34-13 loss to the Washington Commanders. The Browns have not appeared to be on the same page at all this year on offense and I expect this to be a turnaround game for the Eagles.
Sit: Ravens D/ST vs. Washington Commanders (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
The Ravens have been an interesting spectacle this season. They are currently sitting on a 3-2 record, their defense has allowed the most passing yards, but the least rushing yards. This could be an interesting week for rookie Jayden Daniels to cook up the Commanders biggest underdog win of the season. On paper, the Ravens should win this game, but there has been some magic in the water down in Washington this year, a lot of which leads back to rookie QB Daniels. Personally, I’d recommend sitting Baltimore’s D/ST in what could be a tough match-up for them.
Kickers: @1210
Start: Chase McLaughlin (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) @ New Orleans Saints (Sunday, 10/13 @ 1:00 PM EST)
The Buccaneers have had one of the more high-powered offenses this year, and Chase Mclaughlin has directly benefited from this, as he currently ranks as the #6 kicker in fantasy with 11.2 points per game. In what could be a bit of a tougher match-up for the Buccaneers against the division rival New Orleans Saints, McLaughlin may get the call more than usual. He is my #1 pick this week for those using the streamer method to fill your K spot.
Start: Chris Boswell (Pittsburgh Steelers) @ Las Vegas Raiders (Sunday, 10/13 @ 4:05 PM EST)
So long as the Steelers defense remains elite and Justin Fields remains at the helm, Chris Boswell will continue to thrive. With an offense just good enough to drive down the field but just bad enough to struggle to find the redzone, Boswell will continue to get plenty of field goal opportunities. He’s 12 for 13 thus far and should continue as a top fantasy option.
Sit: Wil Lutz (Denver Broncos) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (Sunday, 10/13 @ 4:05 PM EST)
Lutz and the Broncos offense has been okay in recent weeks, but this week the Broncos match-up against Harbaugh and a Chargers offense who loves to run the ball and eat up the clock. With this in mind along with it being a bit of a tougher match-up combined with the overall inconsistency of the Broncos offense, it might be a rough week for Wil Lutz. I’d recommend picking someone else up this week if you had Lutz on your radar.
